Ostromeč

The origin of the castle lies in the distant past. The chronician Oldřich z Hradnice writes around 1369 about "Hrádek" (small castle), perhaps it is Ostromeč. In the early 15th. Ccntury the property was reported as deserted. In the year 1424 the Hussites built here a new castle, 1428 it was destroyed. Later on it was built again and in 1435 conquered and demolished by Hynek Ptáček. Zdeněk Konopišťský was the last to reconstruct it and it withstood a massive siege in 1471 and was not conquered. 1542 it was mentioned as deserted. There are rests of buildings, long bulwarks and ditches hidden in trackless terrain.

Roku 1441 the Taborites (a radical branch of Hussites) tried to conquer it but they failed. The castle perished at the turn of 15th. and 16. th. centuries, 1541 it is mentioned as "deserted hall" for the first time.

Hrazany

Hrazany

This place was inhabited already in the Eeneolite and then in the Bronze Age. At the late Halstadt Age a large fortified place was built here. The most intensive development came after the 2nd century B.C. At that time a large fortress (oppidum) started to be buil here. Under the rule of Celts the fortress took 30ha and then it was enlarged up to 39ha. This fortress is known mainly thank to many years of research done by the scientist Dr. Jansová. The visitors can admire 5 rests of gates as well as strong bulwarks around the hill of Doubí. There had been several attempts to conquer the oppidum during the 2nd.-1st. centuries B.C. Nowadays it is a hall designed in the early baroque style. Originally it used to be a small fortress constructed probably in the early 14th. century (the Radíč property is recorded in 1333, as it belonged to Odolen z Radíče). 1376 the smal fortress is reperted directly as it belonged to the family of Valovský z Úsuší.

In the second half of the 17th. century the fortress burnt down and its owner of that time, Karel Leopold Henegk let it reconstruct into an early baroque chateau. 1682 he let the St. Mary’s chapel built. Later on the eastern wing was built (designed probably by the Lobkowitz family’s architect Antonio della Porta). Inside. the chateau is abundantly decorated by wall paintings and stucco works originated from the 17th. century.

The Chateau was owned by various owners during the history. The most prominent among them were the knight family of Antonín, Josef and Šebastián Losa z Losenau – 1713 they ordered the sandstone statues of saints from the famous baroque sculptor Jan Brokoff. Among the next owners there were i.g. the prominent lawyer JUDr. František Pistl, who had let the famous italian philosopher, reformer priest and matematician Bernardo Bolzano dwell as a guest for several dozens of years. 1939 the chateau was purchased by JUDr. František Oberthor, the president of the Czechoslovakian Bank in Prague. During his ownership time he had improved the building a lot. 1944, during the german occupation, the chateau was occupied by the command of the nazi Germany’s SS troops. 1949 the chateau was seized by the governement, then later used as depository of the Central Bohemia Historical Monuments Preservation Authority. The original furnishing was brought away, stolen or destroyed. The Chateau was not maintained and became desolate.
